VW Grand California Display Screen Not Working

Is your VW Grand California camper display screen frozen, black or not responding? Don’t worry. This is a known issue and can often be fixed with a simple system reset.

Step 1: Check if other camper systems work

Before restarting, check:

☑ Are the lights working?
☑ Is heating working?
☑ Is water working?
☑ Any warning messages visible?

This helps determine whether only the display is affected.

Step 2: Try a simple restart

Try:

  1. Turn the ignition OFF

  2. Lock the camper

  3. Wait 5 minutes

  4. Unlock and restart

Check if the display returns.

Step 3: Perform a full camper reset

This is the most common fix.

  1. Open the rear cupboard at the back of the camper

  2. Locate the large red power switch

  3. Turn the switch OFF

  4. Wait 30 seconds

  5. Turn the switch back ON

  6. Wait several minutes for systems to restart

This fully resets the camper systems.

Step 4: Check the display again

After restarting:

☑ Test the display
☑ Test heating
☑ Test lights
☑ Test camper controls

Many VW display issues are resolved after this reset.
